Tips for the Hetalia Christmas event 2011!

I posted this on Tumblr already, but I decided to post it here, too.
I don't know what to tag this as, so it's probably not allowed... But I do wish that people will read it?
Mods, feel free to delete this is you feel like it's against the rules! <:

  • Remember to read the rules.

* E.g. No spamming the thread. Instead, go to CAPTALIA! That way the comm won’t be spammed with threads.

  • HIMARUYA DOESN’T OWE YOU ANYTHING.

* I feel like emphasizing on this point because when I was over at LJ during the events, some fans are just… No. They go all, “HIMARUYA!!! WHY DIDN’T OYU DO MY REQUEST?!” or “WHY DID THIS CHARACTER SHOW UP AND NOT ANOTHER CHARACTER?!!” or “WHY ARE YOU SO SLOWWWWWW”.

Himaruya is already such a nice man for actually doing requests, holding events and responding to fan questions. I mean, how many mangakas actually do these things Seriously. So we, as a fandom, should be thankful that we have such a lovely creator.

  • No “rape”, “I’m gonna kill Himaruya if he doesn’t update” jokes. Just no. Okay?
  • Don’t bash on any pairings/characters.

* Well, as far as I’m concerned, on Hetaween, when someone talked about their pairing, people started joining in by posting things like, “Does anyone ship (insert pairing here)?” so that nobody gets left out. Which I think was just… Amazing. Thank you, fandom.

So, I don’t really have to elaborate on this.

  • HST WILL HAPPEN.

* I mean, even if you’re doing it as a joke, don’t be so… Ah… Mean when it comes to HST jokes. No matter what, it will happen. So pull up a chair, grab a hot chocolate and just wait! Remember: HIMARUYA HAS TO PLAN OUT AND DRAW THESE THINGS. WE ONLY HAVE TO SIT HERE AND WAIT.

And waiting isn’t so hard, isn’t it? Patience, young grasshopper.

  • Remember to get some sleep and eat well and drink plenty of water etc.!

* Don’t hold your turkeys, guys. No matter how small they are.

  • And finally, the most important thing, remember to say “thank you”. To the mods, to the translators, thread-posters and most importantly, Himaruya.

* They’ve done so much for us. It’s the least we can do!

And I'd just like to say, THESE ARE NOT RULES. YOU DO NOT NEED TO FOLLOW THEM, ALTHOUGH IT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. These are just tips. Just tips. I understand if this post ticks you off or anything. I'm sorry about that, but yeah.

I'm so glad you wrote out these rules! (Hetalia event etiquette, or shall I say, Hetaquette!) I agree with them all. :)

[identity profile] sindragosa.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Hetaquette" is perhaps the CUTEST word to describe the rules ever.

[identity profile] sotnosen93.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 08:22 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed!

[identity profile] thisisvodka.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 11:21 am (UTC)(link)
Also agreed. <3 We need to make this word spread! XD

[identity profile] janeyo.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
Hetaquette. That's adorbz

[identity profile] neurotic-banana.livejournal.com 2011-12-25 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
That's the name of my Hetalia Etiquette tumblog. I've been calling it Hetaquette for months now. ^^;

[identity profile] tehd.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
ahhh thanks for posting this~

Hey, I had this idea too

Thank you for putting this list 'o rules up!

ESPECIALLY the "get sleep" and "don't hold turkeys" part. Don't hurt yourselves, fellow net goers. You can do some serious bodily harm losing that much sleep and holding it so long!

[identity profile] ithinkithought.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
Very nice! I absolutely love how we're all preparing ourselves/getting the rules laid out for Bloodbath. If this isn't a fandom sport. I don't know what is.

[identity profile] pookie-mookie94.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
Ahhh, usually I dislike when someone starts ranting about the rules (personally, I think there should be no "rules". Common sense should apply) but most of your points are really valid and it's good to remind people about this sort of "event-etiquette".

Love the bit about the rest and holding turkey's bit! But... isn't that the fun of it all? :D

The only one I have a little bit of problem with is the himaruya doesn't own you anything one. Of course he doesn't, and I love hima-papa like the next person, but it's alright if you complain a bit if you want? You're allowed to vent a little and respectively if HST pops up or something you don't like comes up, right?

[identity profile] hoshiko-2000.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's the difference between lighthearted or humorous complaining, and bratty, demanding fan-entitlement. The latter is *definitely* uncalled for, and just makes the perpertrators look spoiled and ungrateful.

[identity profile] scdshuton.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 08:17 am (UTC)(link)
Haha wonderfully written. x) We definalty need rules now that this is getting so crazy,

[identity profile] janeyo.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
If everyone follows these rules, it'll be a perfect hetachristmas! c: Thank you for posting this!

[identity profile] rosetteroulette.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
Bravo. *claps*

[identity profile] wakalakaosaka.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
go to CAPTALIA

YES THIS. Come and join us, we don't exactly bite or anything :]

[identity profile] shinattyaru.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
THIS^^^

We haven't had as many people in events lately (when I saw how few people showed up for Hetaween compared to Foolsbath, I was like "Where'd every die to!? Why are we the only ones on CAPTALIA!?"), so we welcome anyone and everyone. Besides, CAPTALIA does so many fun things during the event that the main comm doesn't even think of (Speaking in Keyboard smash, Shipping [and by Shipping, I don't mean what you think I mean; what we did was something completely different. No ships were harmed in the making; except for the ship where Hutt River's Rolls Royce crashed into Rebecca Black's car from Friday, her car got totaled, but the kiddies were fine], Paragraph Generator [Italy lusts for porn!], DISNEY, Ponies, Fancy Text, etc.), it's kinda unfair that the main commers get left out. Most of the original things we do are just to pass time between updates, but hey, that gives everyone something to do before f5-ing, so it's all good, right?

[identity profile] rikkaidai-fuji.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's mostly about 'if I post this, will I offend someone' and 'if I post this, will I crash someone browser' and 'is my comment posted at the correct place' and also 'will this comment make me sound stupid'
Be polite, be reasonable, be smart, be considerate, be patience, be nice, be logical.
The thing is..it's hard to determine what's spam and what's not. Do you think a post with 'F5F5F5F5F5F5' or 'UPDATE!' within some pages considered as spam or as fans enjoying&being happy with the event? This is quite hard to be classified. If we want to strictly separate spam¬-spam within main comm(or event comm) and captalia, it will be quite tedious and need the power of mods.

[identity profile] alexi-chan.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 11:34 am (UTC)(link)
Posting "update" or "F5" are just some of the many ways that show that the fandom is rejoicing/enjoying themselves.
Spam is basically just troll-posting, posting for the heck of it, e.t.c.
That's how I see it, anyway.

Thanks for the Hetaquette advice, amazing Hetalian!

[identity profile] red-renji.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
YESSSSSSSSSSS. Main comm-ers, if you'd like, please come to Captalia! There's no reason to feel intimidated, we're just a bit hyper!

You'll have fun, promise!

[identity profile] dooms-day.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, people even writes death threats to him? O_o

[identity profile] kyoko215.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a couple of issues with this post. Mostly the Hima doesn't owe you anything/HST side.

Have you ever watched a TV show, and at a crucial point, it cuts to commercials? You ever had to wait until after dinner to open birthday presents, and then after cleaning your plate it turns out that "after dinner" meant "after dinner AND birthday cake", meaning everyone's gonna sing to you, you blow out the candles, and you can't touch the presents until everyone's gotten a slice and are pretty much finished with it?

To me, that's what the breaks are. I dont' see why, so long as no one's actually complaining to HIM, people can't get excited and antsy when we go into HST. Anticipation is part of the event, and it seems a little unfair to expect an internet full of excited kids to hold in their emotions when inside they're spazzing so hard they might explode.

I mean, I'm sure some people will have friends or siblings over for at least part of the even (if it lasts nearly as long as Halloween did), but I'm sure a great deal of us will just be online for it, and it's here where we can talk about it and spazz out. Otherwise, we'll be screaming and flailing in our own homes, and will probably wake up or startle most of the house. They might also consider your mental health if you're just talking to yourself to let out the steam of not being able to say your thoughts in the community.

Cuz yeah, I completely agree we need to be polite and courteous, but I just don't agree that we should be expected to "just wait" without any commenting when we go into HST. If anyone has any examples of being mean about this, I'd like to hear it, but I believe the main issue for the last event was just that when people saw we got to Capcha or close to 10k comments, they'd spam the comm with pictures and spazzing just so we could get to the next thread right before the next update. I don't recall anyone being actually MEAN about the update times.

[identity profile] kyoko215.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I had also never seen an "Imma kill him if he doesn't update" joke. However, I do agree THAT is WAAAAAAAY outta line.

[identity profile] sindragosa.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I had also never seen an "Imma kill him if he doesn't update" joke.

I think this is a warning because this actually happened last Christmas Bloodbath. I wouldn't know, Hetaween was my first event, but from what I'm told, fans are still on edge from what happened last year.

As well they should be, I think, that's a terrible thing to say for the smallest matter of late, free updates, for goodness sake.

[identity profile] kyoko215.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Hetaween was my first event, too. So if that happened on Bloodbath, I apologize for getting a little irritated about the rules. That's absolutely horrible!

[identity profile] osoroshia.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeaaah last Christmas was absolutely insane. D:

I do believe there were at least 5 or 6 pages of one entry that were nothing but talking about rape, and there were tons of threats towards Himaruya, so I wouldn't doubt for a second that killing might've been one of them. .__.

All I really know is at one of the points I gave up and slept, I woke up to read that there'd been some mass deletion of rude and threatening comments. As in more than had already been there back during the said 5 or 6 pages I did see. So. I don't even know.

[identity profile] hoshiko-2000.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
It also just pissess me off in general when people joke about rape or 'raping' people. It's disgusting.

[identity profile] osoroshia.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeahh...

Personally I've gotten desensitized to most of this stuff? But. @__@ I've had friends who themselves or family members have been raped, and it just... Completely ruins everything when it's brought up so lightly.

But I think, more than even the mention of it, what's more disgusting is that there's actually people who think it's okay to joke about it so much.

[identity profile] hoshiko-2000.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
'But I think, more than even the mention of it, what's more disgusting is that there's actually people who think it's okay to joke about it so much.'

Oh, well it's okay because they don't ACTUALLY mean it :D!! They're not, like, *actually* going to rape someone!! It's just a *joke* :D!!

Yes, and it's the fact that it's a *joke* which is WHY it's so offensive. People appear to say 'I want to rape X-character' as an expression of *love*. It's sickening.

[identity profile] bani banii (from livejournal.com) 2011-12-25 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
:L that's Russia for you...in the subtlest sense possible..

But yeah..threats to the guy who gave us all this stuff and jokes about rape aren't okay at all.

[identity profile] hoshiko-2000.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone threatened to rape Himaruya if he didn't 'update soon' last year :/.
ext_107369: (Shocked)

[identity profile] kyoko215.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
See, my first event was Hetaween, and as far as I saw, NONE of that crap happened.

So if that happened during Bloodbath, then yeah. COMPLETELY uncalled for. Absolutely disgusting behavior.

[identity profile] hoshiko-2000.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
The troll who posted that particular comment was banned, so I think the threat of mod-action detered a repeat of that particular incident in the two most recent events. And yeah, it is completely disgusting.

[identity profile] pink-cass.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
One thing regarding the last rule: Maybe we could agree on _acting_ gratefully instead of specifically _saying_ thank you? Because as much as I'm for saying thank-you in real life, I think it would get annoying pretty fast if there were a hundred "thank you" posts after every update and every bit of translation. During the Halloween event, we were told not to max out the threads so fast, and there are many, many users online during an event, so all of them writing "thank you"'s might not be as good an idea as it seems on first sight. Which doesn't mean we shouldn't feel grateful, but as I said, maybe we should act accordingly and not so much plaster the pages with thank-you messages.

[identity profile] osoroshia.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, if you don't mind adding,

The users of the main comm who don't follow events tend to view our excitement as spam, since there's usually tons of separate posts to make up for the speed of commenters.

We now have [livejournal.com profile] hetalia_events available to us for the event updates, so there won't have to be any main comm flooding at all.

[identity profile] hoshiko-2000.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for posting this :D! Everything here needed to be said. No rape jokes - they're not funny, no fan-entitled bratty whining, no pairing-bashing, no spamming. Let's have a happy and friendly event people.

[identity profile] mame-meme.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed! I can't wait >.

[identity profile] bani banii (from livejournal.com) 2011-12-24 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
This will be fun...hehe..hetaquette.

My first live event in the community! I can't wait!!

[identity profile] saiechan.livejournal.com 2011-12-25 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
...I'm not sure what I should do exactly?
This is my first too. *so noobie*
Any rules of what to expect? Thank you.

And I heard about this! This isn't something to joke about ever. I understand the excitement, but there's consideration and common sense. But the rules are fair enough, not hard to follow.

So EXCITED!!!

[identity profile] aguzsuicaedere.livejournal.com 2011-12-25 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
* Don’t hold your turkeys, guys. No matter how small they are.

I lost it.

...

I wholehearted agree with all this and will follow the proper conduct to have a great event yet again!

Let's all do our best!
