[Discussion] Nation's collections

Alright, I was thinking for quite some time now, do any of the nation's collect anything?
Do they collect crap, or actually valuable stuff? Do they hunt down collectables in antique stores, or just op shops (charity shops)?
Do they show it off, or keep it in cupboards?
Is it a little hobby, or do they basically have a full room of their beloved collections?

Go wild guys!

Alright, just my huge amount of headcanons... In my head a lot of the nations collect heaps of things...

England: Collects valuable teddy bears (not the mass produce ones), Rupert books, Peter Rabbit rare merchandise, beatles albums, and little cute fairy figures that he showcases in a cabinet. I based most of England on my Dad's collecting habits and mine... England collects a lot in my mind.
America: Has a full room of McDonald merchandise. One of the biggest collections in the world ;D Also, a sizable gun collection and American vintage cars.
France: Has a few of those porcelain figurines (like the pretty girls in dresses) that he showcases off.
Australia: Porcelain figurines of Australian birds. Also he dabbles in bush paintings, pottery and sport memorabilia. Actually, he has a lot of sporting memorabilia.
Canada: Collects stamps. And hockey memorabilia.
Russia: Bottles. He goes around in the river wading for some, or digging under old bridges.
Lichtenstein: Music boxes and rare fabrics. Also, photo frames.
Switzerland: Guns. Biggest gun collection out of all the countries.
Poland: Figurines of ponies/horses that he keeps on all the shelves. And, old dolls.
Prussia: Prussian stuff, and anything with the theme of chicks/chickens. He has a salt and pepper shaker that are cute little chicks, among other home stuff.

Gosh, I could go on and on. But, you guys better have a go :)

Maybe they collect in museums? Their own National/Personal Museums? :D

But I can imagine America collecting McDonald merchandises lol
we, Canada, actually have really old looking hockey museum in Toronto, so it's not suprising for Canada to have some kind of hockey memorabilia

America - Anything with the American flag on it, toys you get when you buy a happy meal from McDonalds, fossils, moon rocks, action figures.
England - Valuable teddy bears, Beatles albums, tea cups, music boxes, ties.
Canada - HOODIES. HE HAS LIKE OVER A HUNDRED OF THEM. Maple leaves, stamps, and hockey stuff.
France - Wine.
Russia - Scarves, guns and vodka bottles.
China - Calligraphy brushes and inkstones.
Italy - Art and cute objects.
Germany - Potato that are shaped to look like people. TOTALLY. ( and beer, too )
Japan - HETALIA MERCH, SHONEN JUMP, MANGA AND DOUJINSHI. AND HE OWNS ALL OF THE HETALIA MERCH. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.
Prussia - Chick plushies, And probably anything with chicks on it.

"America totally collects stamps. And postcards. And bottle caps. And raw gemstones and crytstals, he loves those, especially geodes. And fossils, he probably has boxes full of trilobites by now. And he has a picture of himself standing next to one of those national park greeting signs for every single one of his national parks. Basically, he loves collecting stuff."

Don't forget all the coins! America's collections of the Westward Journey nickels (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westward_Journey_Nickel_Series#Westward_Journey_nickel_series), the 50 State Quarters (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/50_State_Quarters), America the Beautiful quarters (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America_the_Beautiful_quarters) ("Look, I didn't name it. ... I am not full of myself!") and the Presidental $1 Coin Programs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presidential_$1_Coin_Program) are complete, or as complete as they can be (since the last two are still in progress). Maybe some $2 bills, too.

America's shed is never clean: he can empty it out all he wants to, but he just fills it back up again.

[identity profile] omgimsuchadork.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I like this idea. :D

and i'm totally jealous that the hockey hall of fame is in a major city and the baseball hall of fame is in the middle of nowhere

[identity profile] mame-meme.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
LMAO

We have a baseball hall of fame?! jk XDD

[identity profile] omgimsuchadork.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
you can have it when the blue jays win another world series

I only realized after I posted -- since I just woke up and I can't go back and edit -- that what I said was unclear. XD WHOOPS

Germany and Prussia collect beer steins.
England has lately got an interest in Thames Mudlarking and has started a collection of artifacts.

[identity profile] mertseguer.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It doesn't really count as a collection but I always imagined nations would end up with piles of stuff as they grow older (specially countries like Austria and switzerland). Some have it all in attics and backrooms like America and some have it all sorted, preserved and insulated in vaults and storage facilities (Germany and Netherlands)

Besides that:

Prussia: Weapons. From all over the world, he specially loves the type you can't tell it's a weapon.
Germany: Books and manuscripts. Also German cars. He keeps them all perfectly runing and talks to them when he is sure Prussia won't hear him.
Belgium: Dessert recipes.
Netherlands: Flowers and plants.
Austria: Musical instruments. prides himself to know how to play everyone of them.
Hungary: Porn. From very old engravings and stories to modern paraphernalia. She has a special place for anything that features her fellow nations.
Russia: Religious icons. (During the Soviet Union his boss made him burn most of them although he did manage to hide a few.)
Belarus: Anything to do with marriage ceremonies. She's quite the expert on the subject.
Ukraine: Not really a collection but she treasures anything that has to do with her siblings and their tie together.
Greece: Anything to do with cats.
Turkey: Anything to do with tulips. (Every now and then he gets together with Netherlands and they fangirl over the flower)
France: Clothes. the more extravagant the better. Also checks up regularly on any additions to Hungary's collection.
Spain. Tacky souvenirs. (like those flamenco dancers or "I heart" shirts.

I love the idea of America collecting Mc Donald's toys.
Australia is a crytozoologist and collects anything that has to do with this. he spends his free time looking for Dropbears and the likes.

[identity profile] mame-meme.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally forgot we even have a dome in Toronto for baseball games...(but that dome is now used for University exams XDD)
Go blue jays!! >:-D Make us another *cough* useless *cough* hall of fame!!

Well at least you got some sleep :D
I didn't sleep at all...so I misread baseball as basketball when I first read your comment and I was like "do we even have a basketball team?" lol

[identity profile] hyaloiding.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
seconding the Belarus idea. Stacks and stacks of wedding planning magazines. You just know she has everything planned out, from the color scheme to the flavor of macarons she's serving at the reception.

which, by the way, are almond, with gold dusting on the top. and france is making them.

[identity profile] idraax.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hey Canada can I borrow a hoodie?"

"No, they're mine! All mine!" *Laughs manically*

*backs away* "Geeze dude, you just could've said no"

Sorry, couldn't resist. XD

[identity profile] goldenlocket1.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
And that is just kinda sad.

[identity profile] idraax.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
*Imagines Turkey and the Netherlands fangirling over tulips* They would.

You have now made it my headcannon that Germany is trying to recreate the library of Alexandria. XD

[identity profile] omgimsuchadork.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
The Toronto Raptors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto_Raptors)? XD The Baksetball Hall of Fame is in Massachusetts, though if I'm not mistaken, it was a Canadian who invented the game. :O The only Big Four organization Toronto doesn't host though, obviously, is the NFL.

I was in Toronto in May; the Rogers Centre is very lovely (if depressingly empty). How... is it used for exams? I can't imagine how that works! XD

I got some sleep last night. I pulled an all-nighter two nights ago, whoops.

[identity profile] didgeridoodle.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Australia is a crytozoologist and collects anything that has to do with this. he spends his free time looking for Dropbears and the likes.

That sounds just like him, haha.

[identity profile] destinyshiva.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
There are a lot of the older generation here in England, I've noticed, that collect decorative plates and cups. I think that would be right up England's street... various types of cups and plates for special occasions, and so on! My Grandma, for instance, has plates commemorating Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens...? Plates for castles, plates for people, plates for places...

Unusually big industry :I.

[identity profile] robingurl.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
oh my well:

France: collects old wine and sex toys
Britain: teddy bears (the good ones), winnie the pooh things, fairies and magical collectables
america: action figures of all his super heroes, mcdonald toys, comic books
canada: leafs, hoodies, stuffed polar bears

[identity profile] xxwolfgirlxx.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
AHH I WAS GUNA POST THAT >.

[identity profile] cattiechaos.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I think England collects vintage albums. He probably has the nicest tea sets around, but I don't think he actively collects those, more like they've accumulated over the years xD

Alfred collects everything under the sun! Comic books, stamps, commemorative quarters, stickers, etc.

Prussia probably has a few beer steins and as for Germany, I like to think be has a ton of sports cars but he's not really materialistic so I don't know.

I think Russia collects little rubber duckies that are all pimped out to look like other things xD
icelilly: (Default)

[personal profile] icelilly 2011-10-14 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Finland: Moomin memorabilia. 'Nuff said. Sweden doesn't mind though because it makes Finland happy. But I'm sure he wishes he could have his office space back. XD

Russia collects Cheburashka merch. :B He has a special Cheburashka plush that he sleeps with, and tried to subtly suggest the Olympians at the last Winter Olympics wave Cheburashka dolls around to show Russian pride [then later went around to all of the paraders asking if he could possibly keep them xD].

[identity profile] ifluff.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I like this headcanon! 8D

XDDD

I imagine England would collect tons of things, from dinnerware sets to teddy bears to albums, whatever.
One of the reasons America always calls him old.

Someone must collect shot-glasses! D:
Not sure who. Russia, maybe?

China totally collects calligraphy stuff. And maybe things with cats on it.
Gah, look what Sagwa did to me.

I imagine Japan would collect both anime merchandise and ancient scrolls/paintings. He has separate rooms for each.

America needs a Coca-Cola collection.

[identity profile] mertseguer.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
And beat up anyone who said tulips are not manly! XDD

[identity profile] mertseguer.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I imagine him dragging New Zealand all over the place XDD

[identity profile] hyaloiding.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I can see America having every. single. piece of William and Kate memorabilia. And, of course, he watched the royal wedding, and was on the phone with England the entire time, narrating everything.

[identity profile] idraax.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
They would and then Canada would come along and join them. XD

[identity profile] twyxted-mind.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Romano and Spain both have collections of tomato-based merchandise: clothes, toys, dish sets, you name it, they have it. But Romano usually keeps his part of the collection at Spain's house; it'd overtake his and Veneziano's house otherwise.

Prussia collects silly t-shirts in various languages. Canada and America probably got him into it, and now he has all kinds of crazy shirts. He even has the "Shut up!" t-shirt. You know the one.

France has... souvenier condoms. Like, if there's an event where condoms are given out, usually the Olympics, he's guaranteed to pick up a few... and do his very best to keep one unopened for his collection. And there's also a secret British memorabilia shrine.

Agreeing with what everyone said about America. Also going to add in that he has a HUGE collection of Disney stuff. He even has an old (but kept very nice!) Oswald the Lucky Rabbit plush.

Germany has a coin collection. A humongous, meticulously cleaned and organized coin collection. Not just from his own currency, either; he has coins from all over the world. Italy even gave him some old Roman coins.

Russia has... snowglobes. He's just fascinated by them, really; all these detailed little scenes kept in such tiny, delicate, little balls. It feels like being a giant.

[identity profile] triangularprism.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
America stops and buys chainsaw woodcarving art from every roadside stand he finds. He has quite the sizable collection in his garage.

As for Japan, he likes buying all the mascot cellphone trinkets from all of his prefectures! There's a huge box in his closet with all of them, and he routinely switches them around on his cellphone. One day, it's a Momiji Manjuu from Hiroshima, the next it's something from Tokyo, ect... (now that I think about it, is prefecture the right word? Darn.)

That is all.

[identity profile] mame-meme.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
oh my god no way :-OOO I totally forgot about the Toronto Raptors...come to think of it, our University always promotes free game tickets for Raptors game XD
LMAO yes..the Rogers Centre is always so very depressingly empty (and it's HUUGEE so it makes it worse. lol that's how it became a university exam place lol)

We have University final exams there. we don't do it in the stadium playground...we write it in this huge empty room? place? at the Rogers Centre (it's HUUGE) there are desks there. about 4000+ ppl come and sit and write the exam there :-d
Also we have bunch of fairs at that place - like university fair, robot competition, etc :D
it's actually really scary writing exams there bc it's HUGE, it's so empty, the ceilings are crazy high...everyone so quiet and stressing out...lol
I heard from the prof that one person actually screamed and ran out during the exam XDDD

oh my god. we really need sleep...I just lost conscious few hours ago :-I
I was like whaa-?? it's night? where am I? ...what am I?? lol

[identity profile] omgimsuchadork.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Duh, the offices and suites and junk! My turn to be forgetful.

Yeah, it's ... pretty late. Good night! ♥

[identity profile] midori-shiki.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 09:46 am (UTC)(link)
Just to put one for South Korea. I'd think he'd have pictures of EVERYTHING imaginable, especially those of his bands, actors/actresses and himself of course. CDs too.

England would probably have a lot of odds and ends, or so I imagine the Portobello Market would be filled with. And top hats. And canes. And umbrellas. ... or monocles?

America would have Hot Wheels. :x Lego maybe?

Belarus would have a lot of ribbons and lace I think. Even if she isn't the girly type, it just looks nice. Probably some would suit her wedding dress too...

Taiwan would have pearls and tea pots.

Monaco would have playing cards or casino chips.

France: Perfume.

That's about it, I guess.

[identity profile] xniac.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 10:05 am (UTC)(link)
Germany would totally collect things with moose signs on, and real, stolen signs.

[identity profile] webcomix.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I second America and comic books. He probably has a whole vault dedicated to them, a la Sheldon Cooper.

Japan would be a hoarder of many, many cute things. Just...Yeah. Tons of cute things.

I'd like to think that Hong Kong collects tiny models of food. It's a thing we really like over here, making miniatures of our food. When I went to Ani-Com HK, my most expensive purchase was a miniature waffle street cart, and I adore it.

[identity profile] raecat.livejournal.com 2011-10-19 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
America has all the American Girl Dolls and keeps them in a cabinet. They freak out others when they visit.

[identity profile] chibirussia450.livejournal.com 2011-11-08 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Japan collects all sorts of anime stuff, and pictures of strange things he finds in other countries. Also, he probably collects cosplay, both girl and guy.

[identity profile] eirwen555.livejournal.com 2012-03-04 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
America: Has a whole shelf in his study dedicated to Sci-Fi novels, DVDs, and memorabilia, another shelf of comic books. Oh, and presents from Tony the alien, because why not?
Austria: rare/limited edition/antique music instruments and scores. Stradivarius violins, for example.
Canada: Anything hockey-related.
China: Calligraphy, inkstones, old calligraphy paintings and scrolls, though he had to send most of them to Hong Kong and Taiwan's house to keep them from being destroyed by his boss some forty-odd years ago.
France: Wine, clothes that must have been fashionable at some point or other but only look strange to most people nowadays.
Japan: Has a whole room in his house filled with most manga and doujinshi that's ever been published, and another with antique tea cups and calligraphy scrolls.
Prussia: Stuffed animals. I don't know, but somehow in my headcanon post-unification Prussia has a huge collection of stuff animals hidden somewhere only he can find. And any Prussian stuff he could salvage, of course, especially anything and everything associated with Old Fritz.
