I think the uniform is what the Swedish-Finnish troops wore during the Thirty Years' War. The Finnish mounted troops was also known as the hakkapeliitta.

Oh man, I wish I had studied more of Russian history, our schools just teach the revolution, some brief things before and maybe the loss Napoleon suffered in Moscow. (Also, what kind of uniform is Ivan wearing?)

Glad you like this, some things are too interesting not to draw. And you know Finland totally scared the crap out of Prussia back in the day.
My own history education was less than stellar, so I didn't get to find out about a lot of things until much later. (Ivan's outfit was taken from various paintings and drawings, so isn't meant to be a proper uniform per se)
