[fanart] Andalusia sketches
Title: Andalusia sketches
Artist: ¡¡¡Meee!!!
Characters: Spain, OC (Andalusia, Castille)
Rating: E
Warning: OC. My own interpretations. Quite possibly wanky. Not meant to offend. Still have to learn more about Spain. And, uh, they're just sketches.
Summary: So it was started from this randoms sketch on Spain's family. And the bunnies breed. And I suddenly just had to flesh out the Andalusia in my head. Porqueeee (;_;)
---
Young Andalusia, known at the time as Al-Andalus. The most scientifically progressive place in Europe during the Middle Age,
---
Andalusia and Spain, once upon a time.
---
Reconquista.
Basically Castille and Andalus having a big dirty fight over Spain's custody.
Castille was backed up by her husband Aragon and the Church.
Andalus was backed up by Granada [edit: or was it Cordoba? Dios mio, I need to learn more, sorry] and the otherCaliphates Emirates in Africa and Middle East.
The rest of the family switch sides too much it made telenovelas look boring.
---
Current day Andalusia.
He only smiles like that in front of Spain.
He is usually more seen as a overly cheerful fellow whose ability to read the atmosphere is Spanish quality.
---
"Bull-fighting is cool! Can I make it my national sport?"
"Go ahead if you want to♥"
"Flamenco is nice too. Can I use it to attract tourists?"
"Sure, if you want to♥"
"Wow, you have many minerals lying around. Can I have some too?"
"Take all if you want to♥"
Yes, most of those things 'Spanish' that we usually see in the TV or other media? Andalusia's. XD;;;

and the last panel? never more agree with you. Almost all the things both of you can figure it's the true essence of Spain actually come from Andalusia (well, bullfighting was and still is more expanded to the whole spanish geography even Basc Country)
BTW I loooooove your fierce Castilla fighting, such a hard lady, specially whe her husband was more interested in Greece XDDDDDDDDDD

The story of Al-Andalus is quite complex because it goes from 711 when the Muslims arrived at Iberian Peninsula till 1492 when Granada was conquered by Castilla. At that point, Granada was the only territory that remained Muslim.
At first, Al-Andalus was a part of a big Arab empire, until it became independent in 750. In 929 it became a caliphate, and back then Al-Andalus was pretty much 2/3 of the Iberian Peninsula. Around 1031 it was divided into several kingdoms that were slowly conquered by the Christian kingdoms in the Reconquista.
In 1248 almost all of the Iberian Peninsula had been conquered by the Christian kingdoms, and what remained of al-Andalus was a part of what today is Andalusia. Granada was the capital city, and pretty much only Arabs lived there. Granada was the last city to be conquered in 1492.
So that's pretty much it! Since Granada was the last capital of al-Andalus, it sounds very weird to me to consider them separate entities. Nowadays Andalusia is formed by 8 provinces: Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada, Malaga, Huelva, Jaen, Cadiz and Almeria.
I hope that helped you! Spain's story is confusing so you can ask me if you have any questions :) But I'm not exactly an expert either.

But it does make sense to have Cordoba instead of Granada, after a short fast read. :) *goes on to HTML-fu XD*
Since Granada was the last capital of al-Andalus, it sounds very weird to me to consider them separate entities.
But that would be like it being weird to have Osaka and Japan separate entities! DDDD:
Muchos gracias!

No problem! I'd love to see you drawing more of Spain's provinces, so I'm glad to help :)

(Is it spelt Andalusia elsewhere? Everyone's using it in this post, but I don't think I've ever seen it spelt that way...or maybe I'm just being dim. orz)
In other matters, I like your R-18ish stuff on pixiv too. |D;; ♥ ♥no subject

I think I had fell in love *___*
(My mother's parents were from Jaén. Sometimes I put an Andalusian, like a joke, because my grandmother hadn't got an accent). And Andalusia's accent is quite to difficult to understand to non-Spanish native speakers. I read once a book very funny, La tesis de Nancy (Nancy, an English who went to study to Seville and mispronounce stuff like "mi arma" and "mi alma", because some Andalusian pronounce the first but they want to say the second). But it's easy to catch it, ya verás XD
I'm Spanish. And the Andalusian stereotype is: "They don't do anything".
Finally: they are very, very, very religious. You are going to watch that the next week, you'll see that (Eastern is here!). When I was little I was scared of the Christ statues. Too much blood D:
