[Comic]History of Vietnam...kind of.

Title: History of Vietnam
Author: Sirenspammer :D Which is ME!
Character(s) or Pairing(s): Vietnam, France, England, Japan, America
Rating: PG-ish?
Warnings: Sensitive subjects ._. ? Have anyone notice I ALWAYS put this warning on my stuff? LMAO
Summary: 3 pages worth of fun that I've been working on for the past few days. *HACKS UP A LUNG* Now if anyone will excuse me, I will be off being sick in a corner now >.<

This was fun 8D; Making it funny was sort of hard. Specially during the Vietnam war panels. I'm trying to make this as unbiased as possible T_T I'm sorry if I accidently offend anyone *cough* <3 Enjoy? :D

* Seriously, when I live in Ha Noi (and when I come back home to Ha Noi for vacations)...TOURISTS EVERYWHERE. It's a gorgeous city :D Lot's of weird stuff there to see. I'd highly recomend going there (specially in the fall.)
*LOL WUT. THe last time I research Au Co and Lac Long Quan was ....10 years ago O: Sorry if it's a little bit out of there.
*The "Hai Ba Trung" (2 Trung Sisters) rebellion was a Vietnamese rebellion against the Chinese in AD39. It worked...at first. And then sort of just failed afterward 8D;
*Vietnam held on to a lot of Chinese customs and beliefs due to the Ly Dysnasty, started by Ly Thai To in 1010 specially in scholarly and family behaviors.
*Oh Fraaance ._.

*France officially took over in 1887 with the establishment of French Indochina (I might be wrong about this part though T_T )
*"Atleast I left my mark on her". That's right, France! If you notice a lot of Vietnamese cooking is actually just local varations of French dishes. Some of these include but not limited to: gio (seriously. It's a varation of pate 8D), banh xeo (crepes), banh my (we use FRENCH BREADS, for god sake), bun oc (escargo anyone?) and others. Not to mention, the Vietnamese language is written in roman letters, :D Not Chinese scripts like the others. Guess who's fault that is? LMAO. And I'm pretty sure our accent marks are because of that too.
*During the Japanese occupation of 1940-45, French power in French Indochina was still there, but had so little power that they were just pretty much just there for...well, lack of better words, decorations O:
*English forces came to Vietnam and helped kick Japan out. Though my mother said it was the US and not the Englishs. D: I wanted to draw Arthur!
*After the Japanese force is out, France came back trying to get Vietnam. But the country declared its independence already. Chu Tich Ho Chi Minh (sorry, it's a habit.) even modeled the declaration after the American one. Even though he petitioned to President Woodrow Wilson, it was ignored. So, citing what I told DinoTurtle the other day on AIM. It pretty much went like this (this is SUPER oversimplified, okay?)
Vietnam: HEY! America 8D WANNA HELP ME KICK FRANCE OUT? Since you're all for like, independence and stuff, right?
US: Busy. brb. Will get back to you. Stay awesome 8D
Vietnam:...OY. RUSSIA. Wanna help me with the French problem?
Russia: Kay only if you become Communist
Vietnam: Kay whatever. Just give me the help and money
Russia: Hahaha. DONE.
US: OH SNAP! COMMUNISM!!

*France lost in 1954 and left O.O But America stayed? LMAO. Because they wanted to not let the "domino theory" become true. You know that one. the "if one country in South East Asia become communist, they all will"?
*1975, Saigon fell and was replaced with Ho Chi Minh city (WARNING: BIASED TIME) Though most generally declare that America LOST the war, some people held on to the idea that it was tied or that America actually won. LMAO. Someone should REALLY read "The Vietnam War" by Richard Nixon. It is the MOST HILLARIOUS satire that I've ever--! (*cough* Siren, I think he was serious) ...oh. WELL....um..this is awkward.
*I'm not gonna lie though. The war left A LOT of damage on Vietnam. The effects from the Napalms and Agent Orange is...devastating. And kids are still finding bombs in the countrysides and getting caught with them. A lot of Vietnamese immigrants left to other countries. A huge part of them are here in Southern California in Little Saigon. (WARNING: BIASED TIME) Some of them are really...extreme to the mother country O: Calling the day Saigon fell as "National Shame Day" and refusing to use the red flags...
*BUT! Our little Vietnam-tan is up and running :D After repairing ties with other countries, she started trades again and is now a developing nation~~ <3 (THOUGH SERIOUSLY, the whole BIRD FLU thing ._. Not cool.

WELL....
BESIDE THE SERIOUSNESS. HOW ABOUT SOME EYE CANDIES? 8D;;

A random sketch =3= Because my Em Dino likes Thailand. LMAO! And because I want to apologize for so many edits T_T;; SO YEAH. <3 )

Edited for being stupid and forgetting to properly tag stuff...added an apologetic sketch 8D;

Interesting. All I knew about Vietnam was the French influence, and from my mom that food was/still is great and the government in the 1960's in Vietnam was so bad people fled the country LOL

Also I've heard that during the time my mom was living in Vietnam, Chinese were kinda hated on. Now I kinda know why ^^ poor China, rejected by all his little siblings

[identity profile] twistedsheets10.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 05:13 am (UTC)(link)

I've been waiting for someone do to something like this for Vietnam and was contemplating it myself! She's been through so much, so her history is pretty interesting~

Re the whole "America won the war" bit: Those arguments are amusing. The best argument I've heard involved "the US went in there to stop the spread of communism! And look! India and Japan didn't turn communist, did they? Huh? Yeah, hurray for making people hate us scaring people!" *facepalm*

Wow I've been craving to draw some sort of love story about France and Vietnam and your strips make me incredibly happy! (It wasn't a love story, but it's about VN <3) xD

I stopped a few mistakes with your French, but I just laughed SO much at "Ta soeur est chaude". XD Well, it could mean that she's hot/pretty, but it mostly has a... heavy sexual connotation. XD Coming from France, it's even more hilarious.

"Si tu connaises ce que je dis" = If you know what I mean = Si tu sais de quoi je parle

The Trung sisters dolls were hilarious too. XD

really nice comic! i always love seeing fellow vietnamese create hetalia-related comics/fanart about her. my mom always told me if america hadn't "run away", we would have really kicked the communists out of the country, but eh whether that happened or not, my parents wanted to go to america anyway xD
vietnam is really becoming a better country i think, last time i went in spring there were lots of progression in saigon for modernization (with korea and japan+other countries probably making lots of business there xD)

Somehow, for being half French and half Vietnamese, the fist strip made me laugh out loud ( Am I half perverted?? XD) =DD
Also " running away --->>> what France does best " ROFL , so true , so true.

Thx for this, it awesomized my day XD

I love that you told this story, and that you told it honestly (XD "biased time" - it really is impossible to not be biased - the POV thing gives a story soul). I grew up here watching the war on TV (I'm not that old - I was really young when I watched the news, aru!) and just seeing this battered country and hearing the stories of refugees... it makes me so glad that Vietnam has, in a relatively short period of time, improved so much.
