It looks like it says 'Sounan Annual', and a quick (that is, not very thorough) look online translated 'sounan' as 'shipwreck'. I suppose it means that either Germany's keeping a journal about how they seem to end up on that island yearly, or he's reading a book about why it happens and what to do about it. :P
