Oh wow, I had no idea Himaruya knew about Grave Geese (the second illustration.)

Long story short, the Grave Geese thing originated in a gag 4-panel comic in a long dead magazine called Comic Gamest (コミックゲーメスト), which specialized in publishing manga about games.

Geese is a character in Fatal Fury and he was a (hard as hell) final boss in a few of them. He dies in some of them but he keeps coming back from the grave. This is probably how the writers came up with Grave Geese.
