Summary: Canada just wanted to watch the opening ceremony with some tea. That is, until America showed up.

Canada knew that this was going to be a great day. He wasn’t going outside, like most nations did. While his own citizens usually didn’t forget him, other nation’s treated him as if he was invisible, and sometimes he really wondered if he wasn’t. He wasn’t going to be there at the opening ceremony, but that was more because it was much more comfortable to watch it at home, on his couch, then in a stadium. He really didn’t want to be sat on like Russia often did to him at meetings, either. So he planned to just stay in his little cozy house, drinking some tea and watching the show on his tv.

At least, that had been the plan.

And then America had shown up.

“Hey, Mattie! Ready to lose?” He had half-shouted, making Canada slightly regret having opened the door. Of course, when a challenge like that came from his brother of all people, he couldn’t just leave it unanswered.

“We‘ve been training really hard this year, Alfred, you shouldn‘t be so confident!” He retorted, stepping aside to let his brother in. He hadn’t really expected company today, but he knew that since his brother had made the effort to come here, he wasn’t going to leave just like that.

“Ha ha, in your dreams, Mattie. Anyway, I decided to come visit you!” Alfred said, flashing a bright grin. Matthew wasn’t sure what to say to that, so he settled with a question.

“Eh? I thought that you always talked to your athletes on opening night?” Matthew asked.

“What, do you not want me here?” He asked, looking wounded. The effect was slightly ruined when he resumed grinning a moment later.

“It‘s not that, but…” He said. While he stood there, thinking, Alfred stepped into the house and wandered off. Matthew figured out where when he heard a slightly muffled voice through the wall.

“Ew, Mattie, tea? Really?” Alfred said, giving Matthew a frown as he walked into the kitchen.

“What’s wrong with tea, eh?” He said, earning a look from Alfred. “It’s not that bad. Anyway, I think there’s some coffee in the cabinet, since I know that’s what you’re looking for.”

“Cool. So, Mattie, were you just going to sit here alone all night?” He asked, pausing his search to glance back at him.

“Well, I was planning to watch the opening ceremony…” He mumbled. America’s grin grew wider, if that was possible, and he turned back to the cabinet, closing it shortly after as he pulled out a can of coffee. It was still mostly full, as Matthew didn’t really drink coffee at home that often.

“Of course! I’ll watch it with you. It’ll be great. Say, do you have any popcorn?” America cheered.

“Popcorn…eh…?”

“Of course, popcorn! Like a movie night, except with the Olympics. And we can talk about how badly I’m going to beat you, right?”

Matthew sighed. Really, weren't the Olympics supposed to be about peace?

“Oh, don’t act so sad. I’m going to beat you and all, but that’s no reason to mope around. Come on, help me find this popcorn.”

Matthew considered telling Alfred that he didn’t own any popcorn when he heard a loud banging on his door, almost rivaling Alfred‘s knock.

“Huh? I though you said you hadn’t invited anyone over, Mattie?” Alfred asked, halfway through taking all of the soup Mattie owned out of a cabinet.

“But I didn’t…” Matthew replied, waking back to his door. The knock came again, a little louder this time. When he opened the door, he wasn’t sure what he had been expecting to find, but it wasn’t Prussia. “Eh? Gilbert, what’re you doing here?”

“What, can’t you just enjoy the presence of the awesome me?” He said, sliding past Matthew into his house. Matthew was pretty sure that that didn’t answer his question, and was about to state as much when Alfred came in.

”So, Mattie, who-- Hey! Gilbert! It’s been a while, hasn’t it?” He said, grinning.

“Alfred! Long time no see. What’s up?” Gilbert said, giving Alfred a high-five. The two started chatting as they walked into Matthew’s kitchen, and he felt as if he had been forgotten again.

That was, until he heard yet another knock at his door.

Matthew stood there for a moment before sighing and opening the door.

“Hey, Mattie, who’s at the door this time?” Alfred asked, peeking around the corner. Gilbert appeared shortly after.

“Hey, West! What brings you here?” He asked, grinning like he knew the answer already.

“Looking for you.” Ludwig said, frowning. Gilbert’s grin only seemed to grow.

“What, worried I might get lost?” He teased, disappearing back into the kitchen. Matthew jumped slightly when he heard a noise that sounded suspiciously like something breaking.

“Um, come in, I suppose.” He quietly said, half wondering if someone else was going to appear out of nowhere. Alfred came up next to him as he closed the door.

“Hey Mattie, since we’ve got four people here already, why don’t we have a party? I already invited some of the other nations, and I think we should all watch the ceremony together!” He said quickly, to the point where Matthew only really understood half of it.

“….eh?”

Apparently, this was a yes, as Alfred responded with a fist-pump into the air and a ‘great!’ before running into the kitchen, presumably to tell Gilbert and his brother. Matthew sighed again, wondering if his neglected tea in the kitchen would still be warm.

End Notes: First fic, Criticism is encouraged. (Especially for something like OOC characters, which seems to be a problem of mine, or things that are just wrong. Or, you know, general bad writing.)
