Not all wounds are of the phyiscal sense.
Again, I've deviated from being cliche and decided to focus on the mental impact wounds can make.
While Verbal wounds last a handful of minutes, and while Physical wounds can last weeks, the emotional and mental wounds can last a lifetime.
Russia knows this quite well no?
