The bandages on the eagle's left wing are symbolic of how all air transportation within the States, as well as in and out of the country, was shut down for quite a while after the event.
Regardless of your views on 9/11, or whether or not you feel we should have gone to war... can we all agree that it was a horrible day that should never be repeated? I was in fifth grade at the time, and my dad was on a business trip over in London. He was supposed to fly home that day. Because my classmates and I were kids, no one would tell us anything, and I went home from school crying because I didn't know whether or not my dad had been on one of those planes. (He wasn't. He called us that night to let us know he was okay, he just wouldn't be home for my brother's birthday the next day.)
A friend of mine, when I mentioned doing something like this, told me it was too soon. That I shouldn't point it out, because the wound is still raw. But really, what's the line between "too soon" and "too late"? If I wait until the wound closes over, how many people will already have forgotten? That's the last thing I want to have happen.
Constructive criticism is always appreciated; flames will be roundly ignored.
