HERRRM FROM LAST WEEK. And you know what? I did end up copy and pasting De Gaulle. Anyhoo, the major controversy (well not really since only like 7% of Quebec really wants to leave Canada but it still is an issue)that exists in Canada between Quebec and the other provinces that still exist today is the action of Quebec separating from Canada. Even though French Canadians do identify themselves differently from the English Canadians most of the federal funding goes to Quebec. Not only separation would mean major loss of the province main economic foundation but using a lot of their money to separate. (it's bad enough Alaska cuts right there but if Quebec was gone...Canada would be sooo weird) Luckily enough for us that only a very small majority of the Quebec population actually wants to go through with the crazy plan made by the Quebec extremists. (on the other hand French-Canadian culture is so much more sperate... sometimes I wish I was snooty as them)


Charles de Gaulle the French President came to Canada and delivered a speech on Quebec is to be "liberated" and this caused an upset in Canada. The Canadians did not approve of the support of sovereignty since they were having enough troubles with the current Quebec extremists. Although the man was a good French President he had no right to meddle in, it was a breaking an international protocol.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF IT. ITS BACON AND MAYO. THAT SHOULDN'T EXIST.

Well, not for all the things it caused later (rise in the separatist movement, federal separatist party, two referendums, Bill 101 (Sayonara int'l companies coming to start up in Quebec) and the Language Gestapo Police (Dear Red Bull, Starbucks and Second Cup, change your names to French or we fine u.) blahblahblah. Mind, it shaped Quebec during the Quiet Revolution though, so...) but this is exactly how I envisioned a comic about the reaction to the speech in Montreal for Expo 67. (And PM Pearson totally, in a passive agressive way, kicked out de Gaulle) You and me same wavelength? Maybe?

Also, I love the bit with England and the US and Austria would totally rage if someone sold his grand piano.

(Well the French Canadians act really snooty in those regions due to the fact they believe that are "less-American" and more "a nation" within a nation. But it is agreed that the majority doesn't wish to separate. Even the French in France were like, "QUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEL"
