[Fan Art] Finnish War and Afterwards
Title: The Finnish War and Afterwards
Author/Artist:
dawa_chan
Character(s) or Pairing(s): Sweden, Finland, Russia.
Rating: PG?
Warnings: A pair of poorly-drawn scissors sticking out of Sweden's back, but no blood.
Summary: A couple of drawings, and some text to go with it. (About the time when Finland went to Russia's house.)
Hay thar, first post.
I thought I would take a break from doing what I should be doing and research things for which I have no practical use. :D
Being a Fan of the Sweden/Finland pairing, I decided to read about them on Wikipedia, to see what might be in store for future Hetalia comics. (And reading everything prompted me to draw some fan art, as well.)
Most of this information is from Finland-Kun's point of view.
I'm not 100% sure but it seems that the events in the "Running away with Su-San" and "c'mon a my house" comics occurred around the 15th and 16th centuries. (Or earlier, possibly...?)
But a time after that, which has not yet been included in the comics, was around the beginning of the 19th century. The "Finnish War" had Sweden and Russia fighting with Finland caught in the middle.
In 1809, Russia beat up Su-San and took Finland-Kun away. D:
Finland became the "Grand Duchy of Finland."
During this time:
-Finland pledged allegiance to Russia's boss.
-Then there was a time of increased independence and Finnish changed from a language for common folk to a national language to rival that of Swedish.
-Then there was the attempted "Russification" of Finland, but it was unsuccessful and only really hurt the relationship between Finland and the Russian Empire. (And the Soviet Union that was formed later on.)
-There were periods of censorship, political prosecution (and attempts to cut off all relations with Sweden), and any literature that could be considered anti-soviet was removed from Finland. (This all happened the most towards the end of Russian control.)
-Interestingly enough, though, it seems that Finnish peasantry "remained free" (unlike their Russian counterparts) because an old Swedish law remained effective. (Suuu-Saaan.)
After a while, Finland decided to declare independence from Russia, and eventually became an "independent and sovereign nation-state" the Republic of Finland.
After that Finland had himself a civil war.
And then he experimented briefly with being a Monarchy, electing a German Prince as king. (But, after Germany was defeated in the first World War, the idea was scrapped; and Finland Became a Republic.)
He also tried Prohibition of alcohol for a time (Russia would never approve the idea, so he had to try it, after becoming independent), but it got in the way of Finnish drinking habits; so it too was scrapped.
There were some more wars and other stuff I'm too lazy to include, but Finland and Sweden seem to have remained pals through everything. :D
But it seems that Finland-Kun never went back to live at Su-San's house. D:
I would have drawn some more pictures, specifically some concerning Finland's time at Russia's house, but I just don't have the time for lots of fan art. D: (Sorry...)
On the other hand, I think everyone would enjoy it more if it actually appeared in Hetalia.
But there was already a strip in which Finland referred to his time with Russia in the past-tense, so maybe it has already been skipped... (Or a comic relating to it could have been drawn and I just didn't notice it, on the website.) :O
Anyway! That's all I've got. Sorry for rambling on. XD
