I'd actually known about Sealand, as about five years ago, one of my friends go involved with an email pen-pal who she said claimed he was the prince of Sealand. We were all "NO WAY WTF", and then, lo and behold, found out that yes, Sealand was a country and had a prince.

I STILL WTF.

The only reason I knew about Seychelles was because in kindergarten, I had a friend who was from there (he told me there was only one TV channel there and we made many lame jokes about that)... but Sealand? Hadn't heard of it. At all. Though, I guess the gag for him is that he wants to be a country and best everyone else XD

The weird thing is... I knew about Sealand before Hetalia. o 3o;;; I can't remember where I found out about it but it had something to do with the fact that you can "Get yourself an official Noble Title from the Principality of Sealand and become a Lord, Lady, Baron or Baroness!"
