Hetalia Wiki: Status Report

As I'm sure many of you have noticed, the Hetalia wiki has been down for the past couple of weeks, and I thought the rest of the fandom deserved an explanation.

Basically what happened is that the entire Wikkii network (which hosts the wikinet domain) went down. Not just Hetalia, but the Chibisan Date, One Piece, etc. wikis went down also. We have had downtime before but never for this long a period of time, and I fear it may be permanent (as have many of the operators of other wikis whom I have spoken with). Now, I wasn't going to take this lying down. I have been attempting to contact the company who owns Wikkii, Gunggo, for the past week but they have not returned any of my phone calls, emails, or facebook messages. Apparently the site had been sold to them back in May, and ever since then communication has gone quiet from the staff.

As someone whose poured hours (and often entire days) into maintaining this site, I was pissed. But luckily, after a longer outage at the end of September, I had the presence of mine to archive most of the information on the site onto a file that is now sitting on my Desktop. As we have been jumping from free host to free host with the worst luck ever, I'm actually looking into buying a domain name and getting our own server (likely the same ones that jammerlea uses to host the hetarchive).

So yeah, that’s pretty much it as of right now. Hopefully I’ll have something more concrete to share soon!

Oh, I was just gonna contact one of you about it. . .or I had planned to.

orzorzorz Somanythingslost. . . . But thank you for your efforts. . . ! Hopefully it isn't as drastic as that it's gone forever--wouldn't they say something first? It was having it's usual weekend downtime and then it just. . .never came back up. .-. orz I hope we won't have to move, or, at least/rather, that it'll come back up before we have to resort to that(so we can at least get the pages' information first, not that September is that long ago in terms of lost work, I guess.)

The "site moderators" literally have no active accounts that operate outside wikkii's servers, so they wouldn't have anywhere to post such a message anyway. I actually had to look up the site registration to find gunggo at all.

It may still come back up but I am rapidly losing hope. Either way I probably will pay for hosting because this is getting ridiculous and I will gladly pay in order to not be this stressed out ever again.

And there's some stuff we can pull from Google Caches that were taken on October 24th too, which is nice.

This effects the merchandise wiki as well, even if it hasn't been updated too recently. ;~;

If you were to go ahead with buying a domain, would you be willing to divide costs a bit to let that be hosted with it?
I mean. It probably sounds redundant because they're both wikis, so I could easily toss in the other information on there for free. But. :/ The categories and such would clash enough that it wouldn't be the right source for either of us.

I was wondering about that since I visit frequently to look up facts for a blog I run. I'm sorry to hear that it's down! To be honest at first I thought maybe it was due to Sandy, but if they're not responding at all... I hope you didn't lose everything if the site ever comes back! And thank you so much for putting so much effort into the site and trying to find a new one, it means a lot to the fans! :) I wish you all the luck!

What was the url that was used for the merchandise wiki again? I'll try and see if I can configure it onto the same server I'm using.

"hetaliaitemguide" was what I'd been using both on wikia and wikinet.
If the domain ends up being hetalia related to start with, though, even a folder like "items" or "itemguide" would work just as well.

I've been worried about the wiki but figured after this long it had to be the hosting site that went down. Sometimes servers can be so annoying and that's awful that they're not getting back to you to at least say something, but it's good to hear the site may be getting a dedicated host.
