Funimation Getting Hetalia Season 5?

Maybe it's just me being a huge fan of the English Dubbing that got me into this fandom, but I am curious. Nobody knew Hetalia would get a season 5 up until this recent summer. With Himaruya back for our events, RightStuf bringing back Hetalia manga, the new title for Season 5 is announced, I wonder if it can be brought over here like before.

Funimation got the license to both Axis Powers and World Series seasons as well as the movie. I loved them all and how well Funi did a great and awesome job at this! Though rated M and much major changes that really stray away from the original Japanese dubbing, fans around still acknowledge it as part of Hetalia!

If Hetalia: The Beautiful World does air soon in 2013, would Funimation get their hands on it? I heard about sales dropping for both Hetalia and Sgt. Frog, so there might not be a good chance to bring it over to America. But I want to support this series and the company for what it has done! Buy the DVDs! It gives them support for the good job they have done! You aren't forced watch the English Dub since you can always switch the settings to Japanese Dub and watch the English Sub, but it helps a lot if you do support the original release!

What do you guys think? Will there be any chance for Hetalia Season 5 to be brought in other countries like America? Can Funimation pick it up again for another good round?

I thought it was a funny coincidence that Funimation and the fandom had a big celebration together to wrap up the series, and then season 5 got announced.

I'm sure Funimation will pick up Season 5 after it's done airing in Japan! They know how big and excited our fandom is.

From their "farewell video" that was released after season 4, I really don't see how funimation could pass on doing another season. The sales may not have been strong simply due to the fact that, at the time, the fandom was kind of waning. Now with all this stuff going on it's clear to see that there's still a market for this series.

I think Funimation will pick it up. There are pros and cons with the English dub but I like the dub for the most part. If the dub is a problem, I just switch the audio. I like not spending a huge ton of money for a DVD copy-- that's not a bootleg and indirectly telling Himaruya that I enjoy his series and that he should continue with more stories.

I don't know since the one imported DVD I have is lost somewhere in my home and I don't remember how it played. But judging by Japan's music industry, I wouldn't be surprised if the DVDs do have region protection.

Dvds from Japan won't play on American dvd players unless the player is region free. Also, Japanese dvds are very expensive. I was in Japan looking at Detective Conan movies and they were $65 there when I could get them for $25 back home at Best Buy. They don't come with English subtitles either, so unless you're fluent in Japanese you wouldn't understand them.

Funimation will probably get it. That makes me sad, personally. I used to like the dub, but the more and more of it I watched the more and more I grew to hate it. So, what would be good news to you is really sad news to me.

Note: I do normally prefer dubs over subs.

I don't see why they wouldn't. It's a good cash cow for them.

I personally don't like the dub (not because I'm anti dub, my favourite being ocean dub DBZ) but I still they think'd pick it up.

I just wish they kept it closer to the real anime/manga as it feels like a different show.

Honestly, I love both versions, sub and dub. It may take a couple of years, but I'm sure that Funimation will eventually dub it. Take a look at us, the fanbase! We're practically an army!

While I believe that Funimation will get it again, I'd really rather they didn't. I'm flat-out done with disgusting Holocaust jokes and other ways of joking about atrocities that weren't in the sub so, if they get their hands on it again, I won't be watching this dub at all. I love some dubs, too, so this isn't a dub v. sub thing, and I think most of the voice actors do a very good job. But. No.

I agree, it's not about subs vs dubs, it's about quality of dubs. I prefer dubs over all, but I want a translation, not some idiots screwing around ad-libbing.

I'm pretty sure FUNimation will pick up season 5 when they get the chance, and I look forward to picking it up. FUNi did change things up from the original version (occasionally for the worse - see Studentsnark's comment about the Holocaust joke), but overall I think they did a really good job. I'd be more than happy to shell out for the next season.

Though rated M and much major changes that really stray away from the original Japanese dubbing, fans around still acknowledge it as part of Hetalia!

Not raging, but I don't. The dub is pretty much non-canon. More like a parody dub than anything.

The inappropriate jokes... all I can say is that it might lead some kids to think joking about nazis, wars or racist comments are a'okay. They might joke about it with their friends and get this distorted viewpoint about things. Go to a foreign country or say something to a foreigner and you might find yourself in an embarrassing, dangerous situation. Particularly in Germany where wearing Nazi uniforms or hailing are arrestable offences. I feel I've gone off-topic here, so I'll try to answer your question, though I really don't know much about it.

Funimation will most likely get it, unless they have some kind of difficulties and only go for sure-fire, high-profit-margin anime. Hetalia is kind of in that range since it has one of the most acitve fanbases I've ever seen. Ergo, I don't see why they wouldn't.

Admittably, I haven't bought any of the World Series DVDs because my loyalty to any series is somewhat short-lived. If I have a bit too much money in my pocket I'll get around to buying them.

[identity profile] randamonian.livejournal.com 2012-09-01 10:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I barely watch the dub because I know it's not my taste. I don't really dwell on it and I think no less of people who enjoy it. If you like it, and I say this with no ill-will, good for you.

It's quite obvious a large fanbase will hold a large range of opinions but the whole point of Hetalia is lámour, oui?

[identity profile] cremehazard.livejournal.com 2012-11-13 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I remember in a video on Youtube Todd Haberkorn, said that Hetalia had more pre-orders than Avatar. Not The Last Airbender, but the other Avatar. So if they could I'm sure they'll use whatever means to get their hands on it, they know it's a cash cow I think even Todd said that in the video saying that they bought everything they could get their hands on with Hetalia. So unless if the Japanese want to go with a different company this time, Funimation is going to get it.

I understand your concern and I do believe if anyone who doesn't have a Hetalia dvd they should get one, regardless if they pick up Season 5 or not. But over all I feel like we shouldn't have to worry too much, it's not Funimation's fault that they didn't hear about anything beforehand, or maybe they knew but had to go along with saying that was the last season cause they weren't exactly sure on what was going on. Anyways, I will just be happy to see the new season! Yays!
