Question: England's swimming skills

Hello, fellas!

I have a question here. Apparently it is canon that Arthur/England can't swim, but I am yet to find the original source of this information. So, could someone please tell me where this fact, if it is a fact, is confirmed?

//Edit//

Thanks for everybody who replied, now I know at least. :D

Didn't that appear in a Gakuen strip/drawing/thing? I'm not sure how canon Gakuen is.

It was in Himaruya's blog, talking about movies~ There is a translation in the community here (http://hetalia.livejournal.com/9465054.html).

Himaruya's blog. There was a strip that he did about horror movies or something to that effect where England was shown drowning because in movies the English can't swim. . .something like that. Scratch that, starbeams linked it! o7 But, yes, that's where it's from. It's less said straight out than it is implied.

I don't believe it's canon that England can't swim. That strip was demonstrating what English movies are like using the characters, not saying that that applies to the characters. "They can't swim", it says, regarding English characters in the movies, not "England can't swim". So no, I wouldn't say it's canon. :)

Hima only commented on how majority of English people in movies don't seem to be able to swim. It just become popular among fans to think that England himself cannot swim, while in Gakuen Hetalia PSP game, England actually jumped into the lake/pond and saved America from drowning.

To be fair the Gakuen game isn't canon though, since it wasn't written by Hima. But yeah, no it's not canon that England can't swim. It was just a joke putting him in situations often found in movies featuring Englishman.

it's said that he can't swimm because english pirates usually didn't know how to swimm (ironic, right?)

I'm going to say that England's swimming skills are confirmed in neither direction, because the comic is a generality about English people (not England) and Gakuen's about as canon as anything we come up with.

Consider these two things though:

- Himaruya DID draw all the main characters in swimsuits going to the beach, including England
- On the other hand, it's popular lore that it was bad luck for pirates to know how to swim...so you could justify it that way.
